Primus Partners, in collaboration with EGROW Foundation, presents the latest report “Retrofitting of Inter-city Diesel Passenger Buses: An Economic Analysis and Policy Prescriptions.” This report examines the economic and environmental advantages of retrofitting diesel-operated buses to electric propulsion systems as a viable and impactful strategy for India.

The report outlines how retrofitting can significantly lower the carbon footprint and enhance the sustainability of urban transport, highlighting the critical role of innovation and policy alignment in driving progress. It reveals significant reductions in operating and maintenance costs for retrofitted buses compared to traditional diesel buses and new electric buses, positioning retrofitting as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for India's transition to electric mobility.

To catalyse the adoption of retrofitting, the report recommends several policy measures, including pilot programs to test and refine retrofitting processes, revising vehicle scrappage policies to extend the life of retrofitted buses, providing subsidies and exclusive finance schemes for retrofitting projects, encouraging R&D in retrofitting technologies and electric batteries and integrating retrofitting incentives into the FAME III policy, etc.
