Background: -
The Manipur Mega Eco-Tourism Project seeks to provide a unique and memorable experience for tourists coming to the state. To achieve so, Loktak Lake is proposed to be transformed into Sustainable Tourist Destination. Loktak lake has immense cultural and traditional significance in the history of the Manipuri civilization.
The Loktak Lake is the largest natural lake in the Northeast. which is about 500 sq. kms during rainy season and proud to be the largest freshwater lake in the north-eastern region of India. The lake is a wetland and is a protected site listed in Ramsar Convention & the southern zone of the lake encompasses the Keibul Lamjao National Park.
The project aims to sustainably develop the Loktak region's tourism, focusing on land resource utilization, preservation of natural and cultural heritage, and fostering equitable communities with vibrant economies and quality of life.
