Tiruppur in trouble? What is ailing this Rs 70,000-crore textile cluster from scaling up
25-06-2025
Devroop Dhar, India CEO & Co-founder, Primus Partners, highlights structural challenges faced by Tiruppur’s textile industry, noting that most firms are family-run and lack the corporate frameworks needed to scale globally. Heavy reliance on intermediaries like buying houses further limits pricing control and brand positioning. While government programs like Samarth help address skilled labour gaps, he recommends setting up specialised training centres in key textile hubs to boost workforce quality. He also urges the government to support MSMEs by forming clusters and cooperatives, similar to farmer producer organisations in agriculture, to enhance market access, pricing power, and supply chain efficiency.
