Tiered path likely for self-reliance in rare earth magnets
19-08-2025
A recent report by Primus Partners highlights India’s growing strategic vulnerability due to its heavy reliance on China for rare earth magnets, which are essential for electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, defence, and industrial automation. With domestic demand expected to exceed 7,000 tonnes by 2030, driven largely by the EV sector, there is an urgent need for localized rare earth magnet manufacturing and oxide processing to reduce import dependency and strengthen national supply chain resilience.
