Regional Rural Banks have been in operation since 1975 and form the backbone of rural banking, especially in the remotest parts of India. However, their efficiency and profitability have always been under question. The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development or NABARD which supports RRBs partnered with Primus Partners in this report to diagnose the main reasons for unprofitability of RRBs and analyse digital solutions to increase outreach and efficiency of these banks.
