India needs to boost maize production, adjust pricing for grain ethanol: report
11-04-2025
A recent report by Primus Partners, in collaboration with the Grain Ethanol Manufacturers Association (GEMA), titled Unlocking ₹35,000 Crore for Farmers: The Untapped Potential of Grain Ethanol, highlights the need to boost maize production and adopt dynamic pricing to unlock the full potential of ethanol blending. The report also recommends ensuring a steady supply of damaged, broken, and surplus rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and expanding the domestic market for Distiller’s Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS). Rising maize prices have made ethanol production less competitive, discouraging new investments. The report suggests incentivising farmers with high-yield seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation support.
