Primus Partners, in collaboration with Think Infra, today launched a thought paper titled "Barrierless Tolling in India: Towards Efficient, Sustainable & Innovative Infrastructure." The paper was unveiled at an event on January 15 at the India International Centre, New Delhi, with the esteemed presence of Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman of NHAI, and V Umasankar, Secretary of MoRTH.
The launch brought together influential stakeholders such as A.S. Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman of ISRO, and Vishal Chauhan, CMD of the Indian Highways Management Company Limited, along with other industry leaders. They discussed the roadmap for implementing an efficient, sustainable, and innovative GNSS-based barrierless tolling system, focused on aligning with advanced technology standards and addressing key policy challenges to modernize India’s tolling infrastructure.
India’s road infrastructure is growing rapidly, fueled by the government’s vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat.’ However, the tolling system is encountering challenges such as congestion, inefficiencies, and environmental concerns. Modern solutions, such as GNSS-based barrierless tolling, offer a promising path forward, ensuring quicker commutes, improved transparency, and greater sustainability. Primus Partners and Think Infra acknowledged the need for effective strategies to transition to barrierless tolling and undertook in-depth research and consultations with key stakeholders.
